...I did it!...
I was so so excited when I peeked in the oven to see my first batch with their little feet and lovely shiny tops!
I'm sure this successful result was down mostly to watching this video regarding piping-I was doing it so wrong before. I did also prop the oven door open with a wooden spoon, but I didn't used aged egg whites-purely because I forgot to leave them out the night before.
I used the recipe from this months delicious magazine (which isn't the same as the recipe they currently have available online).
I didn't have any yellow food colouring-so my colours and flavours don't really match up! But I made, rosewater (pink) lemon (blue) and orange blossom (purple).
The first batch were the lemon (blue) I think they were a little undercooked due to the door propping. Also I piped them a little big I think.
The second batch were the rosewater (pink) I baked them closer to 20 mins than the recommended 15 and they were cooked perfectly! They were a little brighter than I intended, the colouring spilt a little as I was adding it!
The third batch were the orange blossom (purple). These are fairly close to perfect, as far I'm concerned anyway! Good size, cooked just right and a lovely shiny shell.
I used a simple butter icing for the fillings and flavoured them to match the macaroon.
I'm so pleased with myself! They taste pretty good too! My favourite of the flavours is the rosewater I think, although I am quite fond of the lemon too.
You can see my previous unsuccessful attempts at these here and here!
