...so I intended on making this last week but didn't have the correct ingredients. However after a quick trip to Tescos on Sunday morning Milo and I returned with all that we needed to cook up a storm ( I would however recommend that you do not try to make turkish delight with a tiny helper! I was lucky and Milo was napping and Johnny was also home during the time I was cooking, you do have to spend a lot of time with your whole attention based on the hob!).
The ingredients are fairly basic, cornflour, sugar, lemon juice, icing sugar, cream of tartar, rosewater, food colouring and water. I used the recipe from Ginger Beer and Cherry Cake but this one here is very similar although it makes 2 flavours, obviously you don't have to! I plan on making a whole variety of different flavours to box up for christmas gifts, but only made rose this time around.
The process isn't complicated really just quite time consuming and involves a lot of stirring! Which is especially hard once you get to the gloopy, gluey, paste like stage!

It looked so very weird! I found the way that these ingredients changed into such a strange consistency amazing!

Once all was done and the rosewater and colouring added (I had to get Johnny to step in and do the last bit of mixing at this point, as I just didn't have the strength and I wanted to make sure all the flavour was well mixed) you have to leave it overnight! I don't have much patience at the best of times but waiting to discover if something, quite possibly super delicious, has turned out well requires super patience!
I couldn't even get straight to turning it out first thing this morning as Milo had a doctors appointment! However the time came, I sifted my icing sugar and cornflour, turned out the big block and it all seemed to have worked out reasonably well!

It certainly looks like turkish delight! I have already had a couple of pieces with my mid morning coffee and it was very yummy...it seems a little softer than shop bought, but I would imagine that is just because it is super fresh.

I'm really quite pleased with myself! Next up marshmallows!
It looks amazing, I think I'll have to have a go :D
I've never made homemade marshmallows but I did get some as part of a blog swap I took part in, and they were lovely!

I've always loved Turkish Delight since my second grade teacher brought some in for us to try when we were reading The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. Looks like yours turned out wonderfully!!! Good luck with Marshmallows, they are fun and addictive to make :) Here's a link to my experience with homemade marshmallows:

Wow! It's amazing that you made it yourself & it looks so delicious. Great job.
I may have to try this myself one day but I fear I'd be the only one eating it & eating it all!... not such a good thing!

That looks sooooo yummy! If all that stood in the way between me and the white witch in Narnia was a box of Turkish delight, I'd have joined the dark side.... mwahahahaha!

They look delicious - I'll have to add it to my ever-growing list of deserts I want to try making myself.
